Austin Mahone's clip for new single "MMM Yeah" is a fairly straightforward pop visual that doubles as an inspired homage to a music video from the days of yore (aka 1996): Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity"! Watch Mahone's video, which was released on Thursday (Mar. 13), below:
Like the music video that won the Video of the Year award at the 1997 MTV VMA's, the "MMM Yeah" clip shows its star moving throughout an enclosed room that includes sliding floors, mobile furniture and glowing lights. Unlike Jay Kay, though, Mahone has some company: the single's featured artist Pitbull, for one, as well as a few lovely ladies. And, sadly, Mahone does not don a funny hat in his video.
"MMM Yeah" has peaked at No. 60 on the Hot 100 chart and has sold 193,000 downloads to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Last year, the 17-year-old made his Hot 100 debut with the RedOne-produced single "What About Love."
The pop star's debut album is due out later this year. In December, Mahone told Billboard, "I'm doing a lot of travel right now, so it's kind of hard to find time to record songs. But anytime that I can, I like to, because I'm just trying to finish my album and get it done."
