Listen to a new track from the group's debut Columbia full-length, premiering on Billboard.com.
The alternative folk troupe Matrimony will release its debut album, "Montibello Memories," on May 6 through Columbia Records, Billboard can exclusively announce. Before the Charlotte group heads down to Austin for South By Southwest, check out the new song "Southern Skies," launching on Billboard.com:
Matrimony keeps its rumbling, finely honed sound in the family: the group is fronted by the husband-wife duo Jimmy Brown and Ashlee Hardee Brown, with Hardee Brown's brothers, Jordan and CJ, rounding out the group on drums and banjo/mandolin, respectively. The band made its Columbia debut last year with the EP "Montibello Drive," but based on "Southern Skies," "Montibello Memories" promises to expand upon the rustic sound of that four-song release, with the help of producer Jay Joyce (Cage The Elephant, Gillian Welch).
"From walking under the low grey skies of Belfast, North Ireland, where I grew up, to driving down dirt roads in sunny South Georgia, where the street names are named after the families that own the land. This contrast is the backdrop to 'Southern Skies,'" says Brown. "It's about falling in love with the people and land of the South without forgetting my family and friends, and the memories I have of Ireland."
After playing the Spanish Moon in Baton Rouge on Monday night (Mar. 10), Matrimony will perform a total of seven shows at SXSW this year. Check out the group's full itinerary below:
