Indie-pop artist LIZ will release her latest EP, "Just Like You," next Thursday (Feb. 27) on Diplo's Mad Decent label, but fans can get an early taste of the release with one of its strongest cuts. Listen to new song "Y2K," exclusively premiering on Billboard.com:
"Y2K" swivels into several different styles within its two minutes and 33 seconds, but is anchored by LIZ's soothing voice and the crackling rhythms of producer LidoLido. The R&B -influenced L.A. singer says that the song is "an ode to those who inspire me," and that a line in the track ultimately inspired her "Just Like You'" EP's title.
"It's not often that a pop singer will make club tracks such as this one from scratch with a producer anymore," says LIZ. "You often find yourself top-lining over templates that are already somewhat built. But, I knew exactly the vision I had for the intro to my EP and knew Lido was the one to do it. I wanted the track to be Baltimore/Jersey club inspired, epic and dynamic."
LIZ will be one of the performers on the Mad Decent Boat Party, the label's inaugural cruise which departs from Miami on Nov. 12, 2014. Tickets for the trip, which will also feature Diplo, Big Gigantic, Flosstradamus and many more, go on sale on Feb. 27 -- the same day as the "Just Like You" EP release.
