"I'm just trying to finish my album and get it done," teen star says at L.A. Jingle Ball.
In 2013, Austin Mahone opened for Taylor Swift on her Red tour, scored his Hot 100 debut and won the Artist To Watch award at the MTV VMAs. In 2014, Mahone will at long last release his debut album on Chase/Republic -- a moment the 17-year-old can't wait to see come to fruition.
So is Mahone still tinkering with his first full-length? "As much as I can," he told Billboard at the KIIS-FM Jingle Ball concert in Los Angeles on Friday (Dec. 6). "I mean, I'm doing a lot of travel right now, so it's kind of hard to find time to record songs. But anytime that I can, I like to, because I'm just trying to finish my album and get it done."
That travel includes some overseas dates next month, followed by the MTV Artist To Watch tour soon after. In the months since Mahone began touring in support of his debut single "What About Love," the teen pop artist has recorded a slew of new material for his album, with some of the biggest pop producers in the world.
"I worked with RedOne," he says, "and I thought [the album] was going to be all RedOne stuff, but I worked with Max Martin and Sean Garrett, and I think the album is gonna have a lot of different types of songs on there, but I think it's going to come together real nice and I'm excited to put it out."
