Listen to the latest track from one of the West Coast's most intriguing new pop artists.
Carousel, a promising electro-pop duo based in Los Angeles, stepped out in August with their hypnotic debut EP "Palms," and are already ready to return with their sophomore release. Listen to "Into The Night," the first track from Carousel's still-untitled second EP, exclusively on Billboard.com below:
The duo of Kevin Friedman and Jackson Phillips set forth on Carousel after graduating from the Berklee College Of Music, and hope to eventually replicate the synthesizer-heavy mainstream appeal of fellow alums Passion Pit. The dreamy "Into The Night" goes a long way toward refining the still-unsigned pair's sound -- and it's all thanks to a Christian Slater flick.
"When I started producing the song, I didn't have any preconceived ideas for lyrics or melody," says Phillips. "When I listened back to what I had, I was able to come up with the melodies, but was having a hard time with the lyrics. So I tried muting some of my favorite movie scenes, and playing my track in the background. When I tried it with 'True Romance' I started getting tons of lyric ideas, and the story in the song ended up being vaguely based on the characters in that movie."
After touring extensively throughout 2013, Carousel will wind down the year with a handful of performances in California before prepping their follow-up EP, due out early next year. Check out the just-released music video for "Palms" standout "Another Day" below:
