Selena Gomez has apparently decided to begin a song about her on-again/off-again relationship with fellow pop star Justin Bieber with… a voicemail from the Biebs himself. On "Love Will Remember," from Gomez's forthcoming "Stars Dance" album, the 20-year-old introduces a sorrowful breakup ballad with a recording of a familiar male voice professing his undying devotion in a phone message (listen to the leaked song here).
"Hey babe, it's me," the recording starts at the top of the song. "I just want to call and tell you that I love you so, so, so much. I just wanted to let you know that you are my princess. You are worthy of all the love in the world. You are the love of my life." From there, the piano notes are soon joined by a simple drum pattern, and Gomez mournfully asks, "You said you loved me/I said I loved you back/What happened to that?/What happened to that?"
Although the song does not explicitly state that the voicemail belongs to a certain pop heartthrob, Gomez has confirmed that "Love Will Remember" is about Bieber.
"That's the most personal track on the record, for sure," Gomez told InStyle in a recent cover story. "I think it's a sweet way of releasing it. It's not an aggressive approach to what people are probably expecting… I'm sure he'll love it too."
Another fun wrinkle to this war-of-musical-words: earlier this month, Bieber posted a photo of himself and Gomez to his Instagram account with the caption "#heartbreaker." The Biebs began teasing a new single titled "Heartbreaker" last month.
"Stars Dance" is due out on July 23, and its lead single, "Come & Get It," held steady at No. 9 on last week's Hot 100 chart. Watch the video below:
