She & Him 'Never Wanted Your Love' -- First Song Off 'Volume 3'

She & Him, the 60s-styled folk duo of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, have shared the first sampling of their forthcoming album "Volume 3," due May 7 on Merge Records.

It's an elegant, cozy pop tune called "Never Wanted Your Love" with Deschanel's vocals tucked snugly between some swooning strings and backing vocals. The duo might still sound a bit stuck in pop music's past, but they sound more comfortable than ever at it. Along with the rest of the album, it was produced by Ward. Take a Listen:

The new LP follows the big time indie success of its predecessors, 2010's "Volume Two" and 2011's "A Very She & Him Christmas," which sold upwards of 245,000 and 354,000 units, respectively, according to SoundScan.

"Volume 3" will feature 11 original songs and three covers, including a cover of Mel Carter's "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me." Mike Watt, Tilly and the Wall, Rilo Kiley's Pierre de Reeder and DeVotchka's Tom Hagerman will make guest appearances.

The duo has maintained a busy life outside of She & Him -- Deschanel stars in the Fox sitcom "New Girl," while Ward released his seventh solo album, "A Wasteland Companion," last April.
