The stripped-down clip makes a sharp left turn from "Locked Out of Heaven."
Bruno Mars has paired his latest single, the bittersweet tune "When I Was Your Man," with a throwback music video that debuted on Tuesday (Feb. 5).
One look at that title confirms that, yes, "When I Was Your Man" is a breakup song. The video, directed by Mars and Cameron Duddy, is similarly somber -- the clip features just the singer behind the grand piano in a pair of aviators, reminiscing on all the things he could have done to keep his love around.
The new single, Mars' second off sophomore LP "Unorthodox Jukebox," comes as a sharp left turn from the peppy, new wave-ish rock of "Locked Out of Heaven," which enjoyed a comfortable run at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Produced by the Smeezingtons, "When I Was Your Man" currently sits at No. 49 on the chart, while "Heaven" remains at No. 2 behind Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Thrift Shop."
On Friday, it was announced that Mars would be performing at the Grammy Awards this Sunday alongside Rihanna and Sting. The singer performed his track "Runaway Baby" at last year's ceremony.
