She Wants Revenge at Billboard
"When we really broke it down and said 'what should we do?', it seemed like Adele was the biggest reach," She Wants Revenge singer/multi-instrumentalist Justin Warfield says of the duo's ambitious decision to cover Adele's hit. "Nobody can sing like her and it was so intimidating, I was like, 'Ok, let's do that one!"
In order to put its own stamp on Adele's mid-tempo heartbreaker, which peaked at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and has spent all summer in the top 10, She Wants Revenge got out the acoustic guitars and added handclaps for a somewhat western rock feel.
The twosome, which is rounded out by bassist/multi-instrumentalist Adam Bravin, is modest about its own abilities ("I think were Adele to cover a She Wants Revenge song she would find it incredibly limiting," laughs Warfield); but that's misleading. In the six years since forming, SWR has seen its self-titled debut climb to No. 3 on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart, toured with Depeche Mode, and launched all three of its records onto the Billboard 200 -- including its new one, "Valleyheart," which hit stores in May.
