Jenni Rivera's Family Holds Out Hope She's Alive

The family of regional Mexican singer Jenni Rivera said they still believe their famous relative could be alive. This comes after Mexican authorities confirmed the American-born artist died with seven others in a Learjet that crashed on Dec. 9 in the northeastern state of Nuevo Leon shortly after take off.

For Jenni Rivera, Dodgers Stadium felt "like home." In an interview at the stadium, where she sang the national anthem and "God Bless America" on the Latino-themed Viva Los Dodgers Day last summer, the L.A.-born and Long Beach-raised Regional Mexican star remembered picking up aluminum cans outside of the stadium with her brothers as a little girl, to exchange for money to contribute to the family household.

In the early hours of  Sunday, December 2, Jenni Rivera made a surprise appearance on stage at a rodeo in Texcoco, Mexico, where her brother, corrido star Lupillo Rivera, was performing. It was an emotional reunion for the siblings, who were publicly known to be estranged in recent years. According to reports in the Mexican press, the Riveras had a tearful tequila toast to each other and their fans, and sang Jenni's top ten Regional Mexican chart  hit "Ya lo Se."

Jenni Rivera, the flamboyant, outspoken, big-voiced singer who was the top-selling regional Mexican female star of her generation was confirmed dead after the small private plane in which she was traveling in Mexico crashed. Rivera was 43 years old.
