Reggaeton artist Yandel has signed with Sony Music. Born Llandel Veguilla Malavé, the Puerto Rican-born star has launched a solo career with his first project scheduled for release in November.
"I'm very excited for this new phase in my career," Yandel, who earlier announced that he and his longtime collaborator, Wisin, were working on individual projects, said in a statement. "As always my focus has been to give my very best to all my fans and now with my new family from Sony Music and my new team, I know we can make history together."
Known for his work in the urban genre, Yandel's new album is titled "De Lider a Leyenda" (From Leader to Legend).
"Yandel, is without a doubt, one of the best-rounded Latin artists and he has great potential for international growth," Afo Verde, Sony Music's chairman/CEO for the Latin region, Spain and Portugal, said in a statement.
Earlier this year Wisin & Yandel's manager, Edgar Andino, told Billboard that the reggaeton duo was not splitting up but taking on individual solo projects that would not interrupt their work as a group.
In fact, Sony Music U.S. Latin managing director Nir Seroussi says Wisin & Yandel are currently judges on the third season of the singing competition "La Voz Mexico."
In May, Wisin & Yandel were in conversations with several labels, including their longtime label Universal Music Latin Entertainment.
