Will this groovy new track give the crooner his fifth K-Pop No. 1?
Vocal maestro K.Will returns with his highly anticipated new single, "Day 1," paired with a buzzy video.
"Day 1" is the lead track lifted off his fifth EP "One Fine Day," released via Starship Entertainment (home to SISTAR and Boyfriend) on June 26 along with its official music video. Watch the accompanying visual starring K.Will's labelmate Soyou of SISTAR below.
The lush, melodic track is the work of singer/songwriter The Name and composer Megatone, both of whom K.Will has worked with on previous records. The groove-oriented, summer jam tells a story about an average Joe's pursuit to swoon over an extraordinary girl he's been crushing on for a long time. "Of all the ugly guys, I'm the best looking / What do I have to do to let you know how I feel?" the 32-year-old K.Will sings, adding depth to the humorous lyrics with textured and soulful vocal delivery.
The music video, directed by up-and-coming producer Bishop, stars Korean actor Park Min Woo and Soyou playing a timid man who lingers around the woman of his dreams, hoping to catch her attention. Througout the four-minute clip, the pair develop as lovers and end up confirming their relationship with a lip lock. The video created an immediate buzz in the K-pop world and has racked up almost a million views since its release.
For his new EP, "One Fine Day," K.Will enlisted top hitmakers, including The Name, Min Yeon Jae and Xepy, the latter whom is responsible for the record-tying, six-week K-Pop Hot 100 No. 1 single "Some" by Soyou and Jungigo.
With four No. 1s to his name, K.Will is the reigning king of K-Pop Hot 100 with this new single expected to chart high this week. The singer currently holds the title as the male soloist with the most No. 1s: "Please Don't" (No. 1 for one week in November 2012), "Love Blossom" (one week in April 2013), "You Don't Know Love" (one week in November 2013) and "Like a Star" (one week in January 2014).
K.Will, SISTAR and indie band Busker Busker all have four chart toppers and are only behind female singer IU, who boasts six, for most No. 1s since the K-Pop Hot 100's September 2011 induction.
