After a massive chart success with "Some," the R&B singer reveals a silky new collaboration with underground rapper Beenzino
After tying the record for longest-running No. 1 on the K-Pop Hot 100 with his duet "Some," R&B singer Junggigo aims to smash again with "Want U" featuring rising rapper Beenzino. While this new track has some of the same feel-good, throwback elements like "Some," it's all done way groovier.
"Want U" has wide appeal, utilizing the uplifting funk of current Hot 100 chart hits like Pharrell's "Happy" and Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake duet "Love Never Felt So Good." The silky-smooth chorus certainly recalls JT's funkiest works ("Take Back the Night," "Rock Your Body") as Junggigo's voice jumps from husky coos to falsetto croons.
Underground hip-hop star Beenzino -- one of Billboard's 5 K-Pop Artists to Watch in 2014 -- drops in for a short-and-sweet section over funky snaps and guitar strumming.
Beenzino's section could have been longer, but, like the rest of the track, "Want U" keeps everything lean and strong. There are no over-indulgent belts or unncessary dance breakdowns: Just a smooth rhythm, lively melody and rap break thrown in for good measure, all of which could reward the duo handsomely on the K-Pop chart.
Junggigo's "Some" partner Soyu, of girl group SISTAR, showed her support of "Want U" on Twitter. "I'm cheering you on," she wrote from SISTAR's Twitter account, along with a photo.
Look out to see if Junggigo can score another big hit when the K-Pop Hot 100 is revealed next week.
