The K-pop duo's steamy new single gives HyunA and Hyunseung their second No. 1s this year. Plus, chart highlights from Ailee, Sung Shi Kyung and more
After more than 11 million views of the R-rated music to music video "Now," Trouble Maker snag the No. 1 position with their sensual-yet-super-catchy duet. A lot of talk about the K-pop duo (made up of 4minute member/"Gangnam Style" co-star HyunA and Beast member Hyunseung) and their steamy visual has led to the act topping the K-Pop Hot 100 this week.
But if fans were getting sweaty over the original vid, just wait til they check out a new uncut version featuring even more cigarettes, making out and intense arguments between the singers.
"Now" is the first No. 1 for Trouble Maker, who snagged the top spot upon their sophomore release. Debut single "Trouble Maker" topped out at No. 2 on the K-Pop chart in late 2011. Notably, it is both HyunA and Hyunseung's second time hitting No. 1 this year, but both did so with their respective groups: 4minute's "What's Your Name?" and Beast's "Will You Be Alright?" While it's much of an accomplishment, the K-Pop Hot 100 only counts No. 1s for the credited artists.
While K.Will's "You Don't Know Love" edged out Park Ji Yoon for the No. 1 slot last week, it is now Trouble Maker who barred the K-pop diva from the top slot. Her new retro-tinged single "Mr. Lee," featuring rapper San-E, stays at No. 2 for a second week as K.Will's former No. 1 falls six spots to No. 7.
At No. 3, male vocalist Sung Shi Kyung's remake of classic K-pop act Seo Taiji and Boys' mega-hit "To You" makes this week's Hot Shot Debut. The 1993 single was specially remade to become the main theme for Korean TV drama "Reply 1994." The drama takes place during the time Seo Taiji and Boys were a cultural phenomenon. The cover was rearranged by MELODESIGN, who also rearranged another chart-topping remake soundtrack single "All For You" by Seo In Guk and Jung Eun Ji of Apink. With the growing popularity of "Reply 1994," singles from the soundtrack are expected stay in the Top 10 for awhile.
Sung Shi Kyung says, "I wanted to participate in this project because I am a huge fan of the original track. I had no intentions to make it sound better than the original track. I just didn't want to soften the song too much. I put a lot of effort into the narration part to make it more personal."
At No. 4, K-pop solo singer Ailee lands another chart smash with her latest soundtrack single, "Because of Tears." The chorus highlights the New Jersey native's impeccable Korean and English pronunciation. Impressively, the new song is Ailee's fourth Top 10 entry in 2013 which includes two No. 1s, "U&I" and BAE CHI GI collabo "Shower of Tears."
Elsewhere on the chart, Brown Eyed Soul finds a warm welcome from their three-year hiatus as "Always Be There," a thank you track for fans, starts No. 5. A few spots lower, 2AM member Changmin sees his solo ballad "Moment" steady at No. 8.
