Jim Jones & Chrissy Lampkin Talk Relationship Struggles, Possible Marriage Ahead of 'Vow or Never' TV Premiere
Jim Jones and Chrissy Lampkin’s romance has had its share of ups and downs. The longtime couple's 11-year relationship and five-year on-again, off-again engagement has raised the question among fans, friends, and family whether the couple would be making the trip down the aisle.
Now, the pair, as previously seen on Love & Hip Hop as well as Chrissy and Mr. Jones, is taking their romantic struggles back to small screens with WE tv's forthcoming show Jim & Chrissy: Vow or Never.
“You’re going to see a lot of things you haven’t seen before when it comes to the topic of marriage, but for the most part we give people a real look into what a relationship is,” Jones explained during a recent press junket in New York.
The ride-or-die twosome also say they have "no regrets" putting their long and complicated relationship on display, especially if it helps others. "That is a nice payoff when people can come up to you and relate because you’ve shown the good, the bad and the ugly in your relationship,” Lampkin offers.
The rapper points out that he knows he always has someone to rely on. “I’ve been in this game a long time and we both came up in the streets of Harlem and we see what life can do to people, from the street aspect and the industry. She’s talked me off the ledge on numerous occasions,” he confides.
Whether the nuptials take place remains to be seen, but the maybe-bride-to-be makes it clear she doesn’t want the ceremony televised.
“A wedding day is already pressure and madness, and I think the camera just adds an extra aspect of too much pressure,” she says, noting that the presence of Jim's mom, affectionately known as Mama Jones, also adds mayhem. “I’m kind of nervous of his behavior and his mother’s behavior," she adds. "I don’t know what’s gonna go on."
She also says that she and Nancy “Mama” Jones "are not at war, but very rarely on the same page."
Jones, on the other hand, wants to share the special day with viewers.
"We’ve been on TV so long and people have really gotten to know our relationship through the good and the bad so maybe we give it to them all," he suggests. "We’ve already given them so much."
He also called Cam and Juelz' appearance on Drake's recent New York stop (Aug. 8) on the Summer Sixteen tour "cute." “I was there,” he says. "They came out performing my record, you know.”
Hip-hop aside, Jones and Lampkin are focused on potentially exchanging "I do's" on Vow or Never, which premieres on WE tv on Sept. 1 at 10 p.m. ET. Lampkin assures she's in no rush, either.
"I don’t want to get married before either one of us is really ready, then what’s the sense? That ends in divorce," she says. "People move at their own pace. I’m still here because it’s my choice."
