Mac Miller headed straight to the studio to mourn the loss of hip-hop pioneer Phife Dawg, known for his contributions as a rapper and co-founder of A Tribe Called Quest

"RIP PHIFE. DRINKING A DR PEPPER FOR U RIGHT NOW," Mac -- an ATCQ superfan who also has a "Beats, Rhymes & Life" tattoo -- tweeted on Wednesday (March 23). "i dont even know what to do right now. this is crazy."

The Pittsburgh MC (also known under his producer pseudonym Larry Fisherman) then released a Phife Dawg tribute called "5 Foot Assassin," a three-minute track that samples Tribe gems and references one of the Queens rhymer's popular nicknames.
