CODE Guest Playlist: Kygo's Feeling Avicii, Chromeo and More
Billboard CODE caught up with Kygo this week to discuss the 22-year-old artist’s emergence, as well as provide a peek into the music he’s currently listening to. Here’s the melody-laden playlist that the young producer assembled. Give it a listen below.
Avicii, "Dear Boy (Avicii By Avicii)"
No surprises here. Avicii was the artist who inspired Kygo to enter dance music production in the first place, and the Swedish mega-star’s remix of his own infectious single “Dear Boy” showcases the layered leads and crisp production that originally caught the young Norwegian’s ear.
Chromeo, "Jealous (I Ain't With It)"
The Canadian duo turns in a smooth electrofunk tune that pairs throwback '80s synthesizers with falsetto vocal harmonies. The fourth single off their forthcoming "White Women" LP was a crowd-pleaser at their main stage Coachella performance.
Moongaï, "Cosmofammille" (20syl Remix)
French producer 20syl slices and dices the original’s vocal line over an off-kilter bass backdrop that demonstrates his affinity for unconventional sounds and attention to production detail.
Gnarls Barkley, "Crazy" (TEEMID & Joie Tan Cover)
TEEMID reinvents a modern classic by chopping up Singaporean singer Joie Tan’s voice over warm pulsing synth pads. Kygo prominently featured this track in his guest mix on BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Diplo & Friends.
Ben Pearce, "What I Might Do" (Kilter Remix)
Australian producer Kilter gives Ben Pearce’s biggest single a laidback makeover marked by sparse electric piano chords and pitch-shifted vocal trickery.
