DJ Snake and Lil Jon Slither Up to No. 1 with 'Turn Down' on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs
DJ Snake and Lil Jon crown Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart with "Turn Down For What" (2-1), which earns triple honors as the chart's top Airplay, Digital and Streaming Gainer.
The track hits the top of Dance/Electronic Digital Songs (2-1; 96,000 downloads sold, up 9 percent, according to Nielsen SoundScan), while holding at No. 2 on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs (3.7 million U.S. streams, according to Nielsen BDS). It continues scaling Dance/Mix Show Airplay (8-7), while, as previously reported, landing in the Billboard Hot 100's top 10 (15-10).
Notably, while "Turn" is the 11th No. 1 in the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart's brief history (since launching the week of Jan. 26, 2013), it's the fourth in just the past five weeks, marking an unusual period of turnover at the summit following Avicii's record 26-week run with "Wake Me Up!"; his one-week reign with follow-up "Hey Brother"; and the Chainsmokers' "#SELFIE," which dips 1-2 after two weeks on top.
'TRUE' STORY: Avicii, hospitalized for a gall bladder operation during the recent Ultra Music Festival, receives some comfort by holding down two spots in the top 1o of Dance/Electronic Albums. His remix set, "True (Avicii By Avicii)," soars after a full week of sales (18-8; 3,000 units), while the album it remixes, "True," rebounds 4-3 (6,000).
Meanwhile, "Addicted to You," which appears on both sets, becomes Avicii's seventh top 10 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay (11-5). Featuring an uncredited vocal from folk singer Audra Mae, "Addicted," aided by remixes from the likes of David Guetta, Sick Individuals and Bent Collective, in addition to Avicii himself, surges 34-24 on Dance Club Songs.
SHE SCORES: Shakira claims the top debut on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with "Dare (La La La)" (No. 20). Penned with the upcoming World Cup in mind (although not the tournament's official song, like her "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" was in 2010), "Dare" starts with 9,000 sold and enters Dance/Electronic Digital Songs at No. 17.
ARMIN ARRIVES: Armin van Buuren posts his record-extending 21st title on Dance/Electronic Albums, as "A State of Trance 2014" debuts at No. 9 (2,000). The superstar DJ extends his lead over Louie Devito (19) and the rest of the pack.
Of van Buuren's 12 charted "A State of Trance" compilations, only the "2008" edition charted higher, peaking at No. 5. Armin debuted his new original track, "Ping Pong," for thousands of fans during Miami Music Week events.
IN MOTION: Kylie Minogue notches her eighth consecutive No. 1 on Dance Club Songs, and 11th overall, with "Into the Blue" (3-1). The lead single from her new studio set "Kiss Me Once" was remixed by Patrick Hagenaar, S-Man and Vanilla Ace, among others.
While Minogue scored her highest-peaking Hot 100 hit in 1988, when "The Loco-Motion" steamed ahead to No. 3, she didn't top Dance Club Songs until 2002, when she ruled at last with "Can't Get You Out of My Mind," which became her second Hot 100 top 10, reaching No. 7.
