Tiësto Reveals Republic Records Deal, New Album in 2014: Watch Clip Here
Ever wonder how big record company decisions are made? In Tiësto’s “In the Booth,” it looks pretty easy. The latest installment of the Dutch superstar’s behind-the-scenes web series reveals some pretty major news: Tiësto has inked a deal with UMG imprint Casablanca on Republic Records for an artist album, expected to drop in 2014. Watch the exclusive premiere of the clip here:
“I wanted to work with the biggest player in the industry. I still have my own label, of course, Musical Freedom, to develop new talent on,” Tiësto says in the clip. “It would be really cool to have an album that’s Top 10 all over the world. With a partner like Universal, that’s a lot easier.”
The news caps a momentous year for the veteran DJ, one which began with him signing to industry powerhouse Red Light Management in January, an arrangement he told CODE was part of a plan to take his career to the next level. In June he released the compilation “Club Life: Volume Three,” but it’s been over four years since his last artist album, 2009’s “Kaleidoscope.” His next LP, as we learn in this short video, is likely to be preceded by two as-yet-unnamed singles before “Footprints,” a track already a fan favorite since its big-time debut at Tomorrowworld, ushers in the album’s release.
“It’s a whole different process,” Tiësto says in the video about working with Republic. “I wrote about 20 songs and then together with them you decide which are the best ones. They help me to work on tracks, they can help me to get bigger featured singers on it.”
Who those singers are remains to be determined – though it’s unlikely to be Taylor Swift, whose poster Tiësto passes by inside the Republic offices. That’d give us what is likely the least expected EDM moment of the year.
