Nicky Romero and Krewella's 'Legacy' Video: Watch a Behind the Scenes Clip Here

One of this year’s sleeper hits, “Legacy” pairs two of EDM’s hottest acts – Krewella and Nicky Romero – for a banger that now has a slick music video to accompany it. But what was once just an earnest song about redemption through the power of friendship (and music) is now a powerful tribute to cancer survivors and those who support them, thanks to the vision of the artists and the video’s director. Watch this exclusive behind the scenes clip (replete with cameos from Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Don Diablo) and just try to cry by the end:

Not written with a particular cause in mind, Romero says that the tune was actually languishing a bit without the right topline until Krewella’s Yasmine and Jahan Yousaf were asked to contribute.

“Krewella absolutely and positively nailed it, they are very talented people with whom it was an absolute pleasure to work with.”

For the Yousafs, the process became a personal one:

“Working with Nicky to create ‘Legacy’ as a song and video was a complete therapeutic experience,” describes Jahan Yousaf. “The song is an ode to that one person in your life that has helped save you from your darkest hour and it's almost impossible to thank them for everything they've done for you.”

“[It] feels amazing that it made an impact on people, musically and emotionally,” she continues.

Filmed at The Light in Las Vegas and on-location in Southern California, the video itself cuts between Romero playing in the club, Krewella singing, and what seems like random acts of teen vandalism. This behind-the-scenes clip fills in a few gaps–including one particularly affecting personal story of a cancer survivor.

“This is a concept that I've had in mind for years, dating back to when I was a film student at USC,” director Kyle Padilla explains. Nicky, Krewella, and Ultra Music were on board with the idea and trusted my vision. They were into taking risks.”

“I feel is one of those signature projects for me,” adds Romero. “It was great recording this video and the special vibe and message it gives is great, too.”
