On “Damage Control,” his forthcoming debut artist album, London-based Anjunabeats wunderkind Mat Zo is leaving nothing on the table. Case in point: the single “Lucid Dreams.” Released yesterday, it’s a driving and melodic tune that wraps an inventively alyrical topline in an unrelenting club track. OWSLA trio The M Machine vacate the club aspect of the song for a lushly glitched remix, allowing both artists’ dreams to come true. Listen to the exclusive premiere of The M Machine remix of Mat Zo’s “Lucid Dreams” here:
"We have so many good things to say about Mat Zo's album,” gushes The M Machine’s Ben Swardlick. “He's been unapologetic in his stylistic exploration these days – something we value very highly.”
The group says it was Zo’s artistic achievement on “Damage Control” that prompted them to explore new musical directions on their “Lucid Dreams” mix. The admiration for artistry is mutual, as Zo says he had been looking for an opportunity to collaborate with the group for a while.
“The M Machine approach electronic music with an integrity and an individuality that I've always loved,” explains Zo. “Rather than doing something obvious, they have taken the original and given it a completely fresh sound.”
That Zo’s work is already inspiring his peers bodes well for its success. While the album comes out on November 5 via Astralwerks, fans who pre-order it will help unlock an exclusive “Damage Control” minimix as well as an unreleased b-side.
