Diplo and Skrillex debuted their Jack U side project at the Mad Decent Block Party in San Diego this Sunday (September 15), and premiered a bunch of new music, including a heavy new dubstep anthem with electronic duo AlunaGeorge. Check out the fan-shot video below:
"If you're an emo kid at heart, put your hands up for the emo song," commanded Skrillex, who once confessed on Twitter that he cried during Disney flick "Tangled."
From the grainy audio, the unnamed track (which Diplo intro-ed on the mic as "Jack U featuring Aluna George") sounds like an equal balance of both DJ/producer's styles and signatures. Frontwoman Aluna Francis's sweet voice and haunted melody mirrors Skrillex's pre-drop soundscapes on his Grammy-winning remixes of Benny Benassi's "Cinema" and Nero's "Promises." And the eventual drop, while bass-heavy, favors Diplo's head-nodding reggae style, without the squalls of Skrillex's brand of dubstep.
The two friends have threatened to work together for a long time, saying in this Billboard cover story (with buddy A-Trak) from February 2012 that they already had tracks in the can. But we'll bet that the work with AlunaGeorge came after the band's explosive success with Disclosure, on the international hit "White Noise."
