Ellie Goulding, 'Burn' (Magic Man Remix): Exclusive Song Premiere

Ellie Goulding

There is no question that Ellie Goulding’s best asset is also her most unique: a delicate starlight soprano that she is able to exert incredible control over even in the tightest of vocal turns. It’s Goulding’s voice (and perhaps that captivating blonde mane) that makes her a star in today’s crowded sky of electronica-influenced pop singers.

For that reason, it might be a surprise that synth rock band Magic Man has brought her vocal track down just a tad on their remix of "Burn," allowing it to recede ever so slightly into the night and blend with the syncopated 4/4 rhythm. Unlike the Mat Zo and Tiësto remixes of the tune, Magic Man's leaves the song's form intact, creating an atmospheric wavecore soundscape more in line with Goulding's style.

"Burn" is taken from the forthcoming "Halcyon Days" (out Aug. 27), a re-release of her 2012 album "Halcyon." Listen to the exclusive premiere here >>

In its original form, "Burn" is one of Goulding’s most successful singles, having just debuted at the top of the U.K. singles chart, her first to do so. Her collaboration with Calvin Harris, "I Need Your Love," is currently holding steady in the Top 20 on the Hot 100. "Halcyon" has spent 36 weeks on the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 9.

"Burn" is perhaps the biggest release for Magic Man; the Rhode Island-based quintet previously delivered remixes for Atlas Genius and Smallpools. They are on a U.S. tour this fall.
