Just Be, 'Growler': First Listen
Formerly known as the Bushwacka half of Layo and Bushwacka, Just Be makes his MOOD Records debut
As one half of Layo and Bushwacka, Matthew “Bushwacka” Benjamin played a defining role in UK house over the last 20 years with songs like “Love Story” and their “All Night Long” residency at legendary London club The End. Under his new moniker, Just Be, Benjamin has returned to the scene as a solo artist and this time with a more techno angle than ever before.
On July 15, Just Be releases his “Growler” EP on Nicole Moudaber’s MOOD Records, his first for the label after releases on other techno stalwarts Crosstown Rebels and Get Physical. With its steady hand and hidden bursts, the title track affirms what might be suspected: Benjamin may have molded the British acid house sound, but he is now firmly in the world of post-minimal techno -- perhaps defining a new sound once again.
