Steve Angello, Junior Sanchez Launch New Size Imprint: Exclusive

Brobot will “empower and showcase fresh new talent”

Swedish House Mafia might be through, but its members’ solo careers are moving right along. Today, Steve Angello’s Size Records rolls out its newest project, an alliance with Brobot--the latest label from prolific dance veteran Junior Sanchez.

"I've known Junior for many years and he continues to impress me with his unbelievable talent, as not only a DJ and producer, but also as a fantastic tastemaker,” Angello told Billboard exclusively. “Junior knows music like nobody else, and I'm really excited to see where the Size/Brobot alliance will take us."

DJ/producer Sanchez is marking the occasion with a free Facebook download of  “Acid Fire,” Brobot’s first single under Size (and two of dance’s favorite words come together) and a Size-commissioned mini-documentary about his years rolling with  the coolest crews in the evolving world of American dance music. Watch it below:

“Brobot Records is a purely art driven project, where if I love it, I’ll release it,” says Sanchez. “I want to empower and showcase fresh new talent and release new and more experimental music from my peers, while also providing a home to release my own material.”

In addition to his production talent, Sanchez has an uncanny ability to be right where the next thing is, right before it happens. As a teen in the early ‘90s, he partied at the legendary NASA raves and took notes from guys like Moby, camped out in record label office waiting rooms waiting for execs to notice him (For real, peep the clip), met Armand Van Helden at a house party and formed the influential  Mongoloids collective (think oversexed house with a hip-hop swagger), launched his  own label Cube in 2000, worked with Felix da Housecat on his electroclash  breakthrough “Kittenz & Thee Glitz” album, and DJ-ed the hipster-cool Misshapes  party, remixing Madonna under its banner.

“Steve Angello told me that Cube was a source of great inspiration for him to launch Size Records. So it makes sense to form a label partnership,” says Sanchez. “I wouldn’t have it any other way. It's two like-minded individuals creating something special.”

Junior Sanchez is headed to Miami this March, playing Sunday, March 17 at the Shelborne Hotel pool (with Size buddies AN21 & Max Vangeli); and on  Saturday, March 23 at the Size Party at Wall nightclub.
