Welcome to Billboard's weekly video show "Real-Time Rewind," which recaps the past week's hottest action on the new Billboard Real-Time Twitter Charts -- Trending 140 and Emerging Artists -- and the news that's driving the action. Hosted by Billboard's Joe Levy, you can watch episode 7, which features PARTYNEXTDOOR, Britney Spears, One Direction and more, right here.
So what was happening on the Real-Time Charts this week?
PARTYNEXTDOOR, signed to Drake's OVO Sound label, released his collaboration with the rapper, titled "Recognize," on July 14. After so, he held the No. 1 slot on the Trending 140 chart for seven hours.
Last week someone leaked a version of Britney Spears' "Alien," from her 2013 album, "Britney Jean." The leak caused commotion on social media for its lack of "vocal affects." It entered the Trending 140 at No. 10, then climbed to No. 2.
After One Direction's Zayn Malik shouted out producer Naughty Boy for his music video to "Home" (which is shot from a dog's point of view), the song shot to No. 1 on the Trending 140.
The Trending 140 chart measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music, while the Emerging Artists chart measures the volume of tweets around new artists and their songs.
