LEGEND'S 'YOU' CLIPS STIRS BIG DEBUT: John Legend's "You & I (Nobody In the World)" lands him the Hot Shot Debut and his seventh top 20 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, arriving at No. 18 -- his highest debut yet. The song also nabs the week's highest entrance on Streaming Songs, coming in at No. 17. The entrance is spurred by its new music video, which garnered 2.8 million domestic views on YouTube in the week ending July 13, according to Nielsen BDS (87 percent of its total streams for the week).
STUD STUNS AT NO. 1: Mike Stud tops Rap Albums with his latest release "Closer," selling 15,000 copies in its first week (ending July 13), according to Nielsen SoundScan. The 25-year old rapper tops his last appearance on the chart when his 2013 set "Relief" (his only other chart entry) opened at No. 10, and climbed to No. 5 in its second week — the set has sold 22,000 copies to date.
IGGY'S 'BLACK WIDOW' CRAWLS INTO TOP 10: Over on Hot Rap Songs, Iggy Azalea nails her fourth top 10 with "Black Widow" (featuring Rita Ora), jumping 17-8. All four of Azalea's top 10s have come in just over a three month period, beginning when "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX, reached No. 10 on April 12, which currently resides at No. 1 for its 13th consecutive week. "Work" cracked the top 10 on June 7 (No. 9), while T.I.'s "No Mediocre," featuring Azalea, hit No. 8 on July 5. "Black Widow" sold 41,000 digital downloads for the week, a 118 percent increase, soaring 13-3 on Rap Digital Songs. The track takes digital and airplay greatest gainer honors on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, where it leaps 30-17, becoming her fourth top 20 on the list.
USHER & NICKI 'GIVE IT TO YOU': Usher arrives at No. 40 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with "She Came To Give It To You," featuring Nicki Minaj. The track enters Hot R&B Songs at No. 17, notching the singer's fifth top 20 since the chart's October, 2012 inception. The Pharrell-produced funky dance track's bow is owed mostly to its 19,000 sales debut.
TINASHE'S '2 ON' HITS NEW PEAK: Tinashe scores her first top 10 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop as "2 On," featuring ScHoolboy Q, climbs 11-7 on the chart (viewable on billboard.biz). The track rises 17 percent to 2,868 spins at the format, according to Nielsen BDS. On the Hot 100 the track jumps 36-27, reaching a new peak in its 10th week. Streaming rises 10 percent to 2.3 million U.S. clicks, with its Vevo on YouTube views accounting for 42 percent of its overall streams.
LEELA JAMES RETURNS: R&B songstress Leela James — who is approaching her 10th anniversary on the charts — enters Top R&B Albums at No. 7 with "Fall For You," opening with 4,000 units sold. On Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums, it starts at No. 12 — her fifth entry. In March, the new album's track "Say That," featuring Anthony Hamilton, became her highest-charting hit ever on Adult R&B, reaching No. 12. This issue, the album's title track dips 25-26.
