Joe Nichols No. 1 On Country Airplay; Tim McGraw, Faith Hill Hit Top 10, Florida Georgia Line Debuts
'Yeah' is Nichols' fifth leader, McGraw and Hill score their fifth top 10 duet and FGL's 'Dirt' blasts in at No. 16
Joe Nichols nabs his fifth career leader and completes his first set of two straight No. 1s on Billboard's Nielsen BDS-based Country Airplay chart, as "Yeah" vaults 5-1. The new leader follows "Sunny and 75," which capped the Dec. 14, 2013 list. Nichols previously led with "Gimmie That Girl" (2010), "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" (2005) and "Brokenheartsville" (2003).
(All charts will refresh on Thursday, as they do each week, on Billboard.com.)
Nichols' 5-1 jump with "Yeah" marks the biggest chart-topping leap in almost a year: Randy Houser's "Runnin' Outta Moonlight" bounded 5-1 on the Aug. 10, 2013 chart. No song has made a greater positional climb to No. 1 since Rascal Flatts' "Here Comes Goodbye" rocketed 6-1 (April 25, 2009).
'MEANWHILE' …: Tim McGraw and Faith Hill pad their respective top 10 counts on Country Airplay with "Meanwhile, Back at Mama's," which steps 11-10, marking McGraw's 51st top 10 and Hill's 23rd. Dating to the chart's Jan. 20, 1990, start, McGraw ties Alan Jackson for the second-most top 10s; George Strait leads with 61. Among women, Hill trails only Reba McEntire (36 top 10s).
"Meanwhile" is McGraw and Hill's fifth top 10 duet and first since "I Need You" peaked at No. 8 on Aug. 4, 2007; "Need" was also Hill's most recent top 10. She last reached the region on her own with "Sunshine and Summertime," which peaked at No. 7 on Sept. 2, 2006.
"Meanwhile" is McGraw's first top 10 since "Southern Girl," which rose to No. 5 on Oct. 26, 2013. He extends his streak to 21 consecutive years with a top 10, continuing the chart's longest active run; Strait could reclaim the mark if 2014 brings a top 10 in what would be his 25th straight year with such a hit.
DISHING 'DIRT': Florida Georgia Line sets a career-high bow on Country Airplay, as "Dirt" debuts with Hot Shot Debut stripes at No. 16 – the chart's highest launch this year. The duo's previous best start was No. 45 with previous single "This Is How We Roll," featuring Luke Bryan (Feb. 1).
The new track is the lead single from the pair's sophomore studio album, due this fall. The twosome premiered the song July 8 on NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and performed it the following day on ABC's "Live! With Kelly and Michael."
With industry observers expecting the track to sell 150,000-175,000 downloads during the Nielsen SoundScan week ending July 13, "Dirt" should vault from its No. 40 debut on the sales/airplay/streaming hybrid Hot Country Songs chart (dated July 26) to be unveiled this week.
