So what was happening on the Real-Time Charts this week?

Ariana Grande's second single, "Break Free," immediately went to No. 1 on the Trending 140 chart after the singer premiered the song on the one-day revival of MTV's Total Request Live: Total Ariana Live.

On July 7, Paul McCartney released the big-budget video for "Early Days," which caused the single to go to No. 1 on the Trending 140 Chart. It was quickly knocked off by Alt-J’s "Left Hand Free.”

After the release of 5 Seconds of Summer’s "Amnesia," it immediately shot to No.1 on the Trending 140. It held that spot for 4 consecutive hours. The band spiked again when they announced their 2015 UK and European tour, "Rock Out With Your Socks Out."

The Trending 140 chart measures the acceleration of conversation around artists and their music, while the Emerging Artists chart measures the volume of tweets around new artists and their songs.
