The song charted on the Trending 140 at No. 10 this morning, July 10 at 11:00 a.m. from conversation surrounding the video clip. By 12:00 p.m. (ET), “Alien” had risen to all the way to No. 2.

More on Britney Spears:

The leaked track first surfaced on July 2, but it wasn’t until Spears' producer William Orbit made a Facebook post on July 7 defending the allegations that it caught fire and got traction in the social charts and media.

“Dearest Music Lovers, I have heard that Britney vocal link that everybody’s been discussing,” Orbit wrote in the post.

“It has been impossible not to as there have been many comments directing my attention to it…  I'd like to affirm that ANY singer when first at the mic at the start of a long session can make a multitude of vocalizations in order to get warmed up.”

Orbit compared the vocal exercise to "a runner doing stretches" and mentioned it also helps the engineer get his systems warmed up to the right levels. He closed with a bit of Britney super-fandom:

"Whomever put this on the internet must have done so in a spirit of unkindness, but it can in no way detract from the fact that Britney is and always will be beyond Stellar! She is magnificent! And that’s that."
