Mastodon notches its first No. 1 on Top Rock Albums and its highest rank on the Billboard 200 (No. 6), as "Once More 'Round the Sun" bows with 34,000 first-week copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The Atlanta metal band previously peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 with its preceding album, 2011's "The Hunter." 2009's "Crack the Skye" marked the band's highest previous rank on Top Rock Albums (No. 4) and granted the group its highest sales week (41,000).
"Sun" is Mastodon's sixth studio album dating to its 2002 debut. The debut also marks the band's first No. 1 on Hard Rock Albums and Alternative Albums. The deluxe two-LP vinyl edition of the record sold 3,000 copies and the set opens at No. 3 on Vinyl Albums.
Phish also scores its highest-ranking set on Top Rock Albums (No. 2) with the arrival of "Fuego" (32,000). The title's vinyl sales total 7,000, accounting for 21 percent of total sales, and scores the veteran jam band its first No. 1 on Vinyl Albums. The album matches the group's best peak on the Billboard 200 (No. 7), first set by 1996's "Billy Breathes." "Fuego" is Phish's 12th studio album and 32nd-charted title on the Billboard 200 (dating to its first in 1993).
"Fuego" is the group's first studio release since 2009's "Joy" (not including six live albums released in 2010-11), which started at No. 4 on Top Rock Albums and No. 13 on the Billboard 200 with 29,000 in debut-week sales.
Also on Top Rock Albums, Bad Suns bow at No. 7 with their first album, "Language & Perspective" (10,000 sold). The album's first single, "Cardiac Arrest," rises 16-15 on Alternative Songs and ranks at No. 31 on Hot Rock Songs.
On Rock Digital Songs, KONGOS' "Come With Me Now" ascends 2-1 (up 5 percent to 57,000 U.S. downloads), dethroning Paramore's "Ain't It Fun" after six weeks at No. 1. "Fun" crowns Hot Rock Songs for a seventh week, while KONGOS' debut hit reaches a new peak (4-3).
Jamie N Commons & X Ambassadors' "Jungle" breaks into the top 10 on Hot Rock Songs (14-10) with the top Digital Gainer award. It sold 45,000 downloads, a 79 percent increase, in the week ending June 29, and has sold 141,000 downloads sold to date. The track has gained its latest momentum from its inclusion in Beats Electronics' five-minute spot created for the World Cup titled "The Game Before the Game." The ad clip boasts 21 million worldwide YouTube views.
Imagine Dragons' "Battle Cry," penned with Hans Zimmer and Steve Jablonsky for the "Transformers: Age of Extinction" soundtrack, re-enters Hot Rock Songs at a new peak (No. 28) after denting the chart (at No. 50) for a week last month. The cut shows a 292 percent increase in sales (to 12,000 U.S. downloads), with the movie having opened on June 27.
Hot Rock Songs welcomes three debuts: Capital Cities' "One Minute More" (No. 43), which bullets at No. 25 on Alternative Songs; alt-J's "Hunger of the Pine" (No. 45); and Nothing More's "Ballast" (No. 48). Nothing More's self-titled fourth album debuts at No. 11 on Top Rock Albums and No. 33 on the Billboard 200, marking the alt-metal group's first entry on either chart.
