The star becomes the first act in the chart's 24-year history to command the top two spots simultaneously

Luke Bryan dominates Billboard's Country Airplay chart with his ninth No. 1, as "Play It Again" lifts 3-1 in its 12th chart week. The ascent matches Bryan's quickest to the top, tying "Crash My Party," which rose to No. 1 on July 13, 2013. He'd most recently reached the summit with "Drink a Beer," which spent its first of two weeks at No. 1 on the Feb. 15 tally.

With the coronation, Bryan makes history: As he's featured on Florida Georgia Line's "This Is How We Roll," which bullets for a second straight week at its No. 2 peak to date, Bryan becomes the first artist ever to monopolize the chart's top two spots simultaneously, dating to the list's Jan. 20, 1990, inception. (Bryan and Florida Georgia Line performed "Roll" together on Sunday night's [May 18] Billboard Music Awards, after which Bryan returned to perform "Play" solo.)

On the airplay/sales/streaming-based Hot Country Songs chart, Bryan has claimed Nos. 1 and 2 concurrently with "Play" and "Roll" for four of the past five weeks. Dating to 1958, when multiple country rankings were rolled into a singular chart, only two other artists have so doubled up: Taylor Swift and classic-country legend Buck Owens.

Swift took over at No. 1 with "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" the week of Oct. 20, 2012 (when Hot Country Songs segued from measuring airplay to encompassing airplay, sales and streaming). The same week, "Red," released as a preview cut from her album of the same name, debuted at No. 2. Owens earned the honor for three weeks in June/July 1964, when "Together Again" and "My Heart Skips a Beat" traded places at the top.

"It's all a dream. All I ever wanted to be is a big ol' country star and I cannot believe it's happened," Bryan told Billboard last year. "It's the time of my life and I'm loving every day."
