Daft Punk and Pharrell Rise on Social 50 Chart Post-GRAMMYs

It’s all about Daft Punk on the Social 50 this week as the duo, along with one of its collaborators, scale the Social 50 thanks to their wins and performance at the GRAMMY Awards (Jan. 26).

The Social 50 ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views, song plays and reactions as measured by music analytics company Next Big Sound.

Daft Punk ascends mostly thanks to a 740% bump in weekly views to the duo's Wikipedia page. Its videos across VEVO and YouTube receive 11.6 million overall plays for the week (up 155%) as conversation about the duo on Facebook rose 4.6% (172,000 new fans).

Pharrell also receives a similar boost thanks to his on-screen appearances with Daft Punk (and his infamous hat), which drew a lot of post-show news coverage. Pharrell gained 431,000 new fans overall for the week, a 61% increase over the previous frame.

The “Get Lucky” and “Blurred Lines” conspirator wasn’t the only artist to receive a post-GRAMMY bump on the Social 50. Outside of Pharrell, Beyonce moves 12-7 into the top 10 after a 25% jump in overall score. She receives 30 million plays across VEVO and YouTube in the week following her GRAMMY performance of "Drunk in Love" with Jay Z, a 27% increase in viewership over the previous week.

Lorde, who won won song of the year and best pop solo performance during the broadcast, moves 27-12. Her ascension is characterized by a 23% increase in weekly fan acquisition and a 147% increase in weekly traffic to her Wikipedia page (which received 563,000 views for the week).

Below Daft Punk, Bruno Mars makes a jump into the top 10 (moving 16-10), an upward trend we can expect to see carry into next week’s rankings as activity around his Super Bowl halftime performance (February 2) is sure to affect the chart’s rankings. An 18% jump in weekly video plays along with the addition of 728,000 new fans (up 28%) are responsible for the increase in position.

Finishing up the top 10, Shakira, Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus remain steady at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Rihanna bubbles up (8-4), along with Katy Perry (6-5). Ariana Grande tumbles (4-8) along with One Direction, who moves 7-9.
