Thanks in part to Dr. Pepper, a quirky dance tune is rising up the Alternative Songs airplay chart. C2C's "Down the Road," as featured in a recent TV spot for the soda, debuts at No. 35 on the list this week (after reaching a No. 28 peak on Dance/Electronic Songs last week). The track, released in the U.S. on the Casablanca label, is the French quartet's first U.S. Billboard chart hit. It rose to No. 1 on the France Digital Songs survey last year.
Nataly Dawn, half of the pop duo Pomplamoose, makes her solo debut with "How I Knew Her," which arrives at No. 4 on Heatseekers Albums and No. 10 on Folk Albums with 2,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The Nonesuch/Warner Bros. set, which was funded through a Kickstarter campaign that raised more than $100,000, was produced by her Pomplamoose partner Jack Conte. Nonesuch president Bob Hurwitz praises Dawn for her "original voice."
Seventeen-year-old singer/songwriter Rachel Farley gains momentum with her debut single "Ain't Easy," which rumbles just below the Country Airplay chart with airplay at 14 of the list's 126 reporting stations monitored by Nielsen BDS. Signed to Broken Bow Music Group's recently-launched Red Bow imprint, the Georgia native scored an opening slot on Jason Aldean's "My Kinda Party" tour last year and is managed and produced by Aldean's producer, Michael Knox.
Venezuelan singer Jordaine crashes the Tropical Songs chart this week with his U.S. debut single "Por Este Amor," a debut at No. 23. The Black Hawk/Del Angel act is currently recording his self-titled U.S. debut album with producer Dennis Nieves (Shakira, Elvis Crespo). It follows his 2011 bilingual set "Bajo El Radar." WKKB Providence, R.I., is helping break the 20-year-old's new song, having spun it 33 spins in the Feb. 11-17 tracking week.
