New evidence is bolstering the safe assumption that Apple plans to launch some more iterations of its web radio station Beats 1. Trademark filings first pointed out by French blog Consomac show the company seeking protection for the names "Beats 2" through "5," and "B2" through "B5."

News of the expansion first came down this past August, when reports claimed Apple had made it clear, before ink hit paper, that Apple planned to expand its radio service and that those deals cover potential expansions. That said, trademarks are just as often filed to keep others out -- we can't go make our own Beats 3 radio -- as they are to secure any sort of future for an idea.

The trademarks, viewable here, are registered to Apple senior counsel for trademark and copyright Kimberly Eckhart and were filed in November.

The Zane Lowe-led Beats 1 was hailed as a success when it first debuted, providing a measure of serendipity and hand-curated discovery to the chaotic content offered on the web. Well-known artists like Elton John, Drake, Josh Homme, St. Vincent, Q-Tip, Run The Jewels and Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig have all hosted shows on the station.
