Radio Icon Vince Pellegrino Dies at 68
Vince Pellegrino, president of the Pellegrino Entertainment Group and publisher of the Street Information Network, died Wednesday (Feb. 4) at age 68 after a protracted battle with cancer.
Pellegrino began working as a DJ in the early '70s before taking a job as a buyer for ABC Record and Tapes. Pellegrino eventually transitioned into a sales position at CBS, touting disco early in its reign (he would go on to lead CBS Records' disco department). Pellegrino was also responsible for opening one of the industry's most lucrative New York accounts in music sales, with J&R Music World. He also worked as VP of marketing at RCA and Chrysalis before founding Pellegrino Promotion, Inc. (which would go on to become the Pellegrino Entertainment Group).
Joel Denver, president of the radio industry publication All Access, wrote on their website: "Vince was an icon in the world of music promotion and marketing and did so much to advance the careers of countless artists. He was loved by so many in the music business, radio and of course the artists he worked with. Vince touched people's lives and made a true difference all during his long and successful career. He will truly be missed."
