Andrew Rannells from 'The Book of Mormon' takes over the role this fall
Break out your most sparkly eyeliner -- the first look at Andrew Rannells in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is here.
The poster, featuring Rannells in glam, messy makeup, gives fans the first image of Rannells in the Tony-winning Broadway revival. Rannells is taking over the high-heeled boots of Hedwig from Neil Patrick Harris, who won a Tony for his performance earlier this year. "Hedwig" tells the story of a transgender rocker in East Germany. The show is part musical, part rock concert as Hedwig weaves a tale of her life and lost love.
The well-reviewed revival of the beloved "Hedwig" opened in March, and recouped its initial investment last week, according to the New York Times. Harris will play his last performance Aug. 17; Rannells will take over the role Aug. 20, and is scheduled for a limited eight-week run at the Belasco Theatre in New York.
Rannells was last seen on Broadway originating the role of Elder Price in 2011's "The Book of Mormon," for which he was nominated for a Tony. He also currently appears on HBO's "Girls."
