Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX, departs the Billboard Hot 100's summit this week, dropping to No. 2, but her ubiquitous smash remains in the lead for the honor of Billboard's top summer smash.
At the season's midway mark, the single tops the Songs of the Summer chart, having reigned each week since the list made its annual return. The 10-position running tally tracks the biggest titles based on cumulative performance on the Hot 100 from Memorial Day through Labor Day, a 14-week span. At the end of the season, the top song of the summer will be crowned.
With seven weeks down, Azalea additionally ranks second on Songs of the Summer, with her feature on Ariana Grande's "Problem."
New Hot 100 leader "Rude" by MAGIC! looks like the closest challenger to "Fancy," ranking at No. 3 on Songs of the Summer. It's zoomed from No. 7 when the list relaunched after Memorial Day.
John Legend's "All of Me" (No. 4) and Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" (No. 5) round out the Songs of the Summer top five.
Another song that has heated up along with the weather: Sam Smith's "Stay With Me," now at No. 7 after not gracing the first three Songs of the Summer charts. The ballad holds at its No. 5 highpoint on the Hot 100. (Notably, it's one of just two slow songs on Songs of the Summer, joining Legend's "All" at No. 4. Why the semi-ban on ballads? Emphasis on tempo is a trademark of summer hits, which traditionally sport beats in the more carefree summer months.)
