Soldiers United for Cash [Video/DVD]...

AMG Review

Soldiers United for Cash: The Soundtrack features members of the loosely knit Screwed Up Click, a Houston, TX, underground rap collective led by DJ Screw. Of course, when Screw met an untimely death in 2001, the Click lost its leader, the man responsible for many of these rappers' careers. That's why many of the songs on this soundtrack are a bit solemn and mournful -- they're odes to the infamous DJ who pioneered the practice of "chopping" and "screwing" rap tracks. The roster of performers on this collection is a who's-who of the Houston scene: Lil' Flip, Lil' Keke, H.A.W.K., Big Pokey, Botany Boyz, Southside Playaz, Fat Pat, and many more. Moreover, most of the songs are produced by either T.J. Music or Slugger, two of the Houston scene's most prolific producers. Though most of the songs on Soldiers United for Cash are exclusive to this soundtrack, it's important to note that a few are licensed and therefore available elsewhere. Even so, this is an excellent sampler for anyone curious about the Houston Screwed Up Click; all the major artists are here in fine form. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
