Playlist: The Very Best of Teddy...

AMG Review

Playlist: The Very Best of Teddy Pendergrass covers TP's career through 1981's It's Time for Love. In addition to including his major turn with Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, "If You Don't Love Me by Now," there's a baker's dozen of select songs from his solo work, including '70s soul classics like "Close the Door," "I Don't Love You Anymore," "Turn Off the Lights," "Love TKO," and "Can't We Try" -- all of which peaked within the Top Ten of Billboard's Black Singles chart. This doesn't (and couldn't possibly) contain all the good material from the four studio albums it covers, but as far as introductions to Pendergrass go, you could do far worse. If you want to dig a little deeper, The Right Stuff's two-disc Anthology is the place to go. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
