Soraya - Soraya

AMG Review

Following her three-album stint with Universal, Soraya packed her bags and moved to EMI, where she made her self-titled label debut in 2003. It's a streamlined effort relative to her previous one, the worldbeat-heavy Cuerpo y Alma, released three years earlier. Soraya kicks off with a pair of strong, simple songs with driving guitar backdrops and singalong hooks: "Casi" and "Sólo por Ti," the former reappearing later in an acoustic version. In short, this album is a back-to-the-basics affair for Soraya that is a small-scale success on all levels, returning her to the Latin pop spotlight after a long absence and, more importantly, returning to the guitar-driven adult contemporary ruminations of her breakout debut for Universal, the wonderful En Esta Noche. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
