The Essential Mike Oldfield is a good overview of highlights from Mike Oldfield's Virgin and Warner recordings. Some of the tracks are included in their original form, while others -- including, inexplicably, "Tubular Bells III" -- are present in edited or remixed versions. It's not a bad sampler, but it's frustrating since it doesn't present the original recorded versions of each song. Nevertheless, it is an adequate summary of Oldfield's '90s recordings. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
