Songs My Mother Taught Me - Jenny...

AMG Review

Violinist Jenny Oaks Baker gives another fine performance in this sophomore follow-up to her debut On Wings of Song. Baker indicates in her liner notes that the 15-song collection was intended to give tribute to the relationship between mother and child, and likewise between the Savior and child. All the songs are beautifully orchestrated to support her lovely solos. As with her debut, this album incorporates the talents of many arrangers. Crawford Gates, Robert Cundick, Greg Hansen, K. Newell Dayley, Merrill Jenson, Sam Cardon, and Kurt Bestor all lent their arranging talents to the effort. Long-time producer Kenny Hodges was once again behind the scenes as producer and conductor, and his expert touch shows. But the fact is, Baker is a gifted violinist and her skills don't require a heavy touch from any producer. All in all, another excellent addition to a classical or inspirational music lover's library. ~ Dacia A. Blodgett-Williams, All Music Guide
