On Wings of Song - Jenny Oaks Baker

(1998)
AMG Review

Fans of the violin and hymns alike will enjoy this fine collection of orchestra arrangements featuring violin solos by the gifted Jenny Oaks Baker. In spite of choosing a selection of hymns very familiar to the Latter-day Saint listener, Baker and the recording team chose a collection of arrangements that feel not only inspirational, but somehow fresh. Baker truly knows how to make her instrument sing. One might expect as much from an artist who's played since her preschool years, however there's something intangible there; it can only be described as a gift from God. Portions of this album were also recorded live in the First Baptist Church of Salt Lake City, UT, providing a wonderful resonance on the choral pieces. A fine listen on the Sabbath day, and for any serious fan of the violin. ~ Dacia A. Blodgett-Williams, All Music Guide
