Lloyd Charmers, an accomplished singer, keyboardist and producer who played a significant role in popularizing reggae for six decades, suffered a heart attack on Thursday Dec. 27. His career included the vocal groups the Charmers (who recorded with Coxsone Dodd, Duke Reid and Prince Buster) and the Uniques; his Splash imprint label; founding the Hippy Boys that morphed into the Upsetters and later the Wailers; and producing Ken Boothe's "Everything I Own" which topped the UK singles chart.
